Cute animals with ereaders
The digital department manager at Ooligan Press is the reason I've drawn many cute animals over the past year. She's the reason my silly animal drawings are all over the Ooligan Press website, so when she requested some kitchy animals for her instructional ebook guide, I was happy to oblige. Without further ado, may I present cute animals with ereaders!

Alex Trebek, Omnipresent God
I usually save my comics for Thursday afternoons, but since there was a new Celebrity Jeopardy sketch this weekend on SNL (!!!), here's an autobiographical comic about the time I tried out for Jeopardy in sixth grade. Please note that my head is full of cats and pizza and not the quadratic equation.
Added bonus: the Celebrity Jeopardy sketch I mentioned earlier!

Thursday Afternoon Comics: Swine in Space
It's time for another edition of Thursday afternoon comics!
I drew this one pager over the summer for a comics class, but then it took me forever to scan it in. Anyway, enjoy "Swine in Space"!

Happy Groundhog's Day!
These groundhogs are proper gents. I remember Groundhog's Day being a much bigger deal when I was little, but I also grew up in and around Pennsylvania, so it might be more popular around there?

Happy Birthday to Me!
On October 26th I will be turning 26! Golden birthday!
Birthday Cat! 'Cause it's almost my birthday!
Bonus drawing of Mr. Snorkers, a very classy pig. I would like to imagine that Birthday Cat and Mr. Snorkers would be great party guests.

Cat Wedding
I went to my first non-family weddings this summer. Here's a card I made for my friends Liz and Travis. (Liz is a superb illustrator - you can check out her wonderful cut paper illustrations here: http://lizabethgoss.com/)
I'm clearly have a cat-drawing addiction.

Cute Animals!
More drawings for the new Ooligan Press website. Who knows what our webmaster is going to do with all of these, but she's brilliant, so I think these drawings are in safe hands. The internet pretty much runs on cute animals, so it makes sense to fit them wherever we can on the site. Can't wait to post screenshots of the site when it goes live!

Fish! They're supposed to be salmon, but I think they're probably not very accurate. Also, it's hard to make some cute because most of them are hella ugly (especially salmon).

Tired huskies. The faces are kind of weird, but whatevs.

A raccoon for the 404 page. It just makes sense.

Dam Good Books
Here's another little thing I whipped up for Ooligan Press:
I offered a beaver-less option if the press wanted to be a bit more high-brow, but I'm happy to see the little guy made the cut.
Ooligan Press is putting together "Dam Book Bundles" - basically a collection of 3 titles that our press has published. The titles are offered at a discount because you're buying multiple books. It's a pretty sweet deal, and you can check it out here if you want to buy some excellent titles from a student-run independent press. Check it out for the puns alone!

Dancing Cats
Continuing the week of cuteness, here are more cats (if you need more cats drawings, just scroll through past blog posts). I was supposed to have a finished spread for the SCBWI-Oregon conference, but grad school got in the way, so I only finished the line art. This summer I need to color it in. Of course, nothing I do is going to compare to Jon Klassen's work, but a girl can dream.
Initial sketch:

The text from the spread I picked to illustrate:
"Eight cats tap...tip bowler hats in pink tuxedos, canvas spats"

Super-Sized Squirrel
You may have noticed a trend on this blog (not in the last couple posts, but in a bunch of my cat drawings) that I love drawing really obese animals that look more like toys than anything living in the wild. The following is no exception.
I put together a t-shirt design for my peer mentoring program. We have a thing about squirrels (they're in all of our program newsletters), so it was a no-brainer to draw this up:
Embrace the squishiness!
Here's a picture of mentors wearing the shirt with my design on it:

All of the Cats
Here's something I did a few months ago for the Independent Publishing Resource Center (IPRC) in Portland. They needed a half-sheet sized catalog cover to promote classes and events offered in February and March of this year. To the surprise of no one who has skimmed through this blog, it features cats.
The Valentine's Day image was the front cover and the St. Patrick's Day cats occupied the back cover.

Mr. Tea
A fun 80s mashup between Mr. T (who pities fools) and Mr. T (who has tall teeth) at a tea party (naturally). This piece was part of "Jibbart Jabbart: A Mr. T-Themed Art Show & Experience" at the PhilaMOCA in Philadelphia.

A quick little drawing I did based on an old family photo of me:

Thursday Afternoon Comics!
I wanted to make a cute and simple comic. That resulted in "The Adventures of Tiny Worm":
Keep an eye out for more comics from me in the upcoming month. I have time to draw these things now!

Friday Afternoon Comics & More!
Hello dear readers!
I've been horrible at posting recently, and I apologize. I've been occupied with getting into the Ooligan Press Book Publishing Master's Program at Portland State University (woo!) and I spent last weekend at Stumptown Comics Fest (double woo!). I also had to deal with some other way less interesting and more stressful stuff.
Blah, blah, blah, enough about me - here's a comic!

This happened right outside my window the other night so I felt compelled to draw it. I like that the dude looks like Strong Sad from Homestar Runner. But Strong Sad probably wouldn't yell at a cat. Also, the cat was unharmed. I don't know what was going on but that cat was pissed.
Here are some sketches from the week:
Kids in sunglasses. The sketch on the right is from a photo of my little brother. I love little kids with big sunglasses on. It's so great.
And some bunnies! Because who doesn't like cute bunnies?
That's it for now. I'll get back on track with my posts next week. Thanks for viewing!
